Fatal Trust - a book you don't want to miss

There are very few books that capture me in the first few paragraphs. "Fatal Trust" by Todd M. Johnson was one of those books.

I had not planned to start this book right away, but I picked it up one evening, and after reading the first few pages, I couldn't put it down.

Ian Wells is a young lawyer, making his way trying to build his law practice. A law practice that was once in his father's hands. After his father's untimely death Ian steps in, straight out of law school, and tries to revamp the type of law his father's office represented. Caring for his widowed mother, who now has Alzheimer's, Ian finds that the bills keep mounting.

When Ian accepts a client who offers him a large payout from distributing a trust, Ian feels this was too good to be true. Before long Ian finds this simple trust is steeped in a mystery that brings back faded memories from his own past. A mystery that may be linked with one of the greatest unsolved crimes in Minnesota history. Will this simple job cost him his career? His life?

Without giving the plot away, I have to share this was one of the best mysteries I've read in a very long time. Todd Johnson, himself a seasoned trail lawyer, kept me on my toes with his excellent writing. I would rate this book a 5+ for content and exceptional writing.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

Bread for the Journey

"In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait in expectation."

Here's what I did

I was making pinwheels for a donation quilt, which I will donate to Quilts of Valor.  About half way through, I decided to change things up a bit.

I went from this...

...to this (sorry about the terrible lighting. It is a white background)

I like the way the white blocks set off the pinwheels.

Do Quilt shops inspire you?

Often times visiting a quilt shop sends a breath of inspiration. It's like I can go for a while and not need to be filled. But then all the air goes out, and drinking in fabric and colors helps to motivate me.

It's been a whole year since I visited this quilt shop.

It is located in Plant City, which is about 35 miles from where I live.

They have a large selection of fabric choices.

And quilt samples to inspire.

Yes, it fills me up and gives me a little push to get back to the sewing machine. And of course I had to buy a little something while I was there.

Grandbabies tend to change my quilting palette.

Do you put your faith and trust in quilt patterns?

Do you put your full faith and trust in the Quilt patterns you purchase? We all assume that patterns have been tested and are correct for construction.

I've had some patterns that were very difficult and instructions that were confusing but up to this time, never one that was wrong. Read this post from Quilts in the Barn for some valuable information concerning magazine patterns.
Have you had this experience before?

Cookies to quilt by

Doesn't everybody love a yummy cookie? Well, I found one that rivals the cookies you see at the mall. Big, delicious, Chocolate Chip cookies.

A friend brought these cookies one night when we were hosting a small dinner. Boy were they a hit! I couldn't let her get away without sharing the recipe. So now I am sharing it with you!

Chewy Jumbo Chocolate Chip Cookies

4 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups softened butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 Tablespoon vanilla
2 cups (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine softened butter, sugar, brown sugar. Beat till creamy.
add eggs and vanilla. Continue beating until well mixed.

Reduce speed to low and gradually add dry mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.

Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls, 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake at 375 degrees for 10-14 minutes or until light golden brown.

There is only one problem I have found with these cookies....
You can't eat just one!

Captivating Novel

Rarely do I read a book that captures me as much as A Name Unknown. Roseanna White's very well written novel captured me from the start with a clever story line. I was enchanted with her well developed characters, historical facts and the budding friendship that draws Rosemary and Peter together. You can't help but be drawn into Rosemary's difficult life and Peter's shunned world.

Rosemary Gresham, having lived on the streets of London, is a thief. One who provides for her large family. When she is given an assignment to discover if wealthy Peter Holstein is a traitor to the Crown, Rosemary doesn't let her lack of education or status keep her from attaining her goal. Posing as a well-credentialed librarian, Peter, whose name and stutter has kept him in a solitary life, believes Rosemary is the best person to help him prove his loyalty to England.

A totally engaging book which I found hard to put down. I totally enjoyed this book and would give it a higher rating than 5.
