Cover story

Do you use your quilts for things other then beds? We live in an older home, so sometimes I use quilts to cover areas that would normally not be seen.

A few years ago I made this pattern.

It was actually half of a pattern that was published in a magazine. It is the perfect size to cover the electrical box in our hallway.

A friend of mine made a mini quilt to cover her breaker box.

Here's what she said -
The pics are of the 36 x16 mini quilt I made to cover the breaker box in the hallway from the side door to the kitchen. I did 4 inch squares of red and covered half of the square diagonally with light colored selvages! It was really fun and easy! Then I just had fun arranging and rearranging the 'half-square triangle squares'.

Such a clever idea for using selvages. How do you use your quilts in your home??

Great idea! I like to display my quilts in my kitchen--such an unexpected place--but I love the "home-y-ness" it gives the kitchen. I would love to get rid of my TV set and stack my quilts in the TV cabinet and leave the cabinet doors open...it reminds me of how they display them in the stores.

I have quilts hanging in every room. In my guest bath there are 2 flamingo quilts, as it is decorated with flamingos. Guest room has Yellow and red wallhanging and red and yellow quilt on bed. Some quilts are changed with seasons. I don't own any "blankets" anymore. We use quilts on each bed. I love them. You can never have too many.

That's a great idea to cover up those breaker boxes.

What clever girls...It wasn't until just the last year that I even got my quilts out. I was afraid something would happen to them. Now that I've made more I'm not so paranoid! I throw my quilts over the bannisters and have them hanging on racks, nothing very original, but at least they're out of the closet.

Wish I had thought of it. :) Thanks for sharing this idea. I have an electric panel in my home office that would much better covered up by a beautiful quilt. Most of the quilts I make go to others but I do have a few that hang on the wall.

Great idea! I've used quilts to teach my students lessons, but never tried to cover something up. Maybe, I should just drape a quilt over my husband's recyliner. We wouldn't have to purchase a new one that way:)

I love both of those! I use small quilts to cover areas too - especially all the nail holes I have in my room, lol!

Ingenious idea! Thank you Sweet Jocelyn for sharing such a remarkable alternative. Hope you've been well. With the arrival of Spring, I've been busy preparing my lawn and garden, and trying to paint in-between. Enjoyed my visit here tonight so very much!

Yes I do that all the time. I use quilt as table cloth. I use an old quilt as washing cover. I like both of the little quilts. Thanks for sharing - Hugs Nat

I'm ashamed to admit that I only have two quilts in my home. One was a gift from my MIL and it is on our bed. The second is a wall hanging that is hung on a wall in my kitchen. It was my first quilting project. Clever idea to use them to cover eye sores throughout your home.

Love those box covers. I love to wrap myself in a quilt and then I have them on the wall going up the stairs. I have them on the beds and on the bannister. Thanks for stopping by.

Great idea! I have used them as table cloths when I have company and have draped some small ones over my kitchen chairs.

I use them just about everywhere because I don't have space to keep them all stacked and stored. I used to have a big one hanging on my kitchen wall to cover the hole that I'm currently making into a pantry. I took it down when I started the pantry, and now it's on my bed. I also am using one as a "bedroom door". And we use some to cover the furniture, since they're easy to take off and wash and put right back on and it protects the upholstery from the cats. Then I have some on the wall, some on a ladder, some on a quilt rack (or two), and some in a cabinet. They're everywhere!
